Some of the non-invasive or the minimally invasive procedures that we use, I will utilize the Fotona Lightwalker laser. And I utilize that for periodontal procedures instead of traditional periodontal surgery. It is a more conservative and more minimally invasive procedure than traditional surgery.rnrnWhen it comes to restorative dentistry, I can also utilize the same laser to remove tooth decay and remove tooth structure. And it allows for very conservative and small preparations to minimize the amount of tooth structure that’s removed when we’re placing a filling in a tooth after we remove the decay. Another example, as we move into the implant dentistry is utilization of the Yomi robot and being able to very precisely place the implant exactly where it needs to be.rnrnThat allows for minimal soft tissue damage and minimal soft tissue manipulation. Instead of having to reflect a very large flap of tissue to be able to visualize the bone, I don’t need that visualization as much when I have the Yomi robot and the digital plan that we utilize. So the smaller the surgical site, fewer the sutures, the less inflammation, the less pain postoperatively.rn
How We Use Dental Lasers
Lasers can be used for a range of soft-tissue and treatment needs, from gum therapy to reshaping tissue and supporting comfortable procedures. Because the laser is so precise, we can often work more conservatively than with traditional instruments – which fits our philosophy of doing the least amount of dentistry needed to restore health. We frequently pair laser treatment with ozone therapy for natural disinfection.
If you have avoided care because of dental anxiety, laser dentistry is one of the technologies that makes treatment at our office more comfortable than you may expect.
